About Us

Our school is made up of of 8 classes, ranging from Nursery and Reception in our Foundation Stage classes for our youngest pupils, up to the oldest children in Year 6. Each year group consists of one class. Class teachers work very closely together to ensure all the children enjoy the same quality of teaching and learning.

There are three Key Stages within the school – The Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (Year 3 and Year 4 are Lower Key Stage 2 and Year 5 and Year 6 are Upper Key Stage 2). Our school has hall area which is used for P.E. lessons, worship and assemblies, performances and creative activities. Each Key Stage has their own playground for the pupils’ break times, outdoor games activities, sports etc. The school has a well kept garden area, which is used by the children for many different activities. Our outdoor prayer garden is used for outdoor worship and as a quiet place for reflection. Our outdoor spaces provide a pleasant haven for small groups of children to work in.

Sacred Heart has a well-equipped library, Nurture Room and Sensory Room  â€“ all available for pupils to use when appropriate.

The school also offers a breakfast club, after school club and a wide variety of exciting extra-curricular activities some of which are held after school.

Our school has strong links with the community including, local libraries, nurseries, Accrington Stanley Football Club, local industry and our local high schools and primary schools. We also regularly take the pupils on various school trips in order to extend their learning opportunities, and to make the work being taught in the classroom even more fun and meaningful. Alongside these, the school invites a range of visitors to work with the children, from Viking re-enactment groups, to puppet performances and local artists.

As a Catholic School, we provide a Catholic education promoting the academic, physical, spiritual and social development of each child. We achieve this by;

  • Encouraging compassion, care and respect through our shared faith and belief in the Gospel values.
  • Nurturing the child’s spirituality through prayer and worship.
  • Developing the pupil's individual talents.
  • Encouraging the pupils to do their best.
  • Promoting family involvement in our school.
  • Valuing each child’s individuality.

We promote Christian values and relationships between staff, pupils, parents, governors and the church community. We believe in providing a happy and stimulating learning environment where everyone works together with mutual respect and in which children are well-mannered and grow together into confident and capable young people. The school has a long established and vital role to play in local life; participating in a variety of community events. Parents support the school in many ways; there is an active parent and teacher association who warmly welcome new parents, organise social events and raise valuable funds which contribute to the high level of resources in the school.  At Sacred Heart RC Primary and Nursery School we believe it is important that, as a parent or carer, you feel welcome in the school.

Education is a partnership between home, school and church. The co-operation and participation of parents with our school in the education of your child is positively encouraged. The best schools are those with strong links and good relationships with the parents. We hope that you will feel confident in approaching us at school with any questions or worries you may have. This is a happy, vibrant school where all children will be given the opportunity of learning in a Catholic environment. We have an excellent range of provision that will allow your child to flourish in all areas.

The first priority of the school is always the safety of the children and we will safeguard our children on all occasions and in all eventualities.

On this website we hope to be able to provide a wealth of information about the learning within our school and to share with you some of the high quality work that our children so often produce.

We are very proud of our children and our school community and if you have any suggestions that would help us to be happier  and more successful please do not hesitate to let us know either in person at the school or by email to bursar@sacredheart-church.lancs.sch.uk

We look forward to working in partnership with you so that your child has a very happy and successful time at our school.
