Here are the Fluent in 5 resources for this week. This is a 5 minute a day fluency in arithmetic  that the children are familiar with.

AREA - the space covered by the shape (the inside part)

PERIMETER - the distance around the outside edge of the shape

Remember to look carefully at the shapes and check what they are asking for - only the shaded part! Also, some are full squares and others are half of a square.

Today I want you to enjoy being at home in the sunshine.Try and send some of your hard work in, I would love to read them and see you boxes. Get someone at home to test you on this weeks spellings. If you haven't done so already, complete a reading test from your pack.

.

E.g  Who is the kindest person that has ever held you?

How many holidays have you been on?

Where is the funniest place you have been read?

These would be my questions to a book.

Once you have got your questions and thought of possible answers, write it as a poem

Mine would go like this:

Grandma Davis is kind and sweet

She always holds me caringly

Lots of places she's taken me

Australia, Africa and on a cruise

I've smelt the air and tasted the sea

The Hot Air Balloon's the place to be.

Looking forward to reading your poems.

Wednesday 25th March 2020

today I want you to  take a couple of your objects and think of something they would know, a secret they may have. Here are some examples - The Stone's Secret. Never tell anyone but, I have a skeleton trapped inside of me. Extend to magical secrets – just invented ideas – to get more imaginative personification. The Moon's Secrets. The stars look down on you like eyeballs in the sky. The night is when the sun closes it's eyes and sleeps for a while. Write these down in your book. Ask whoever is at home with you to guess what object you have written about and ask them if they could choose a different object and write a secret about it. Please send these into school so we can publish some on the website head@sacredheart-church.lancs.sch.uk

Continue making your box - don't forget to let us see them by sending photos!

Tuesday 24th March 2020

Today you will think of something you could put in a special memory box and write a poem using personification. You can see an example below. See how the objects have used human like features - whispering, dancing, speaking (this is personification).

I will put into my box,

the dark pupil of a pencil's lead,

Ten dancing leaves from an Autumn day.

The whispering wind speaking secrets you will never know.

Design your memory box - what will it look like, what is is made of, how big would it be etc.

At some time this week use a box from your recycling and make a memory box. Send a photo of your finished masterpiece or of you making it, that we can put up on the website (send to head@sacredheart-church.lancs.sch.uk

Poetry

The Fog by Carl Sandberg

The fog comes

on little cat feet.

It sits looking

over harbour and city

on silent haunches

and then moves on.

Read this poem and highlight any personification (when something that is not human is given human characteristics)

Find an object in your home and write 5 sentences that personify it.
