Literacy and Art Week

On the week beginning 6th February Sacred Heart took part in a literacy and Art week. Each class was off timetable and choose a book to study and an artist.

 

Literacy and Art week started with a bang on Friday 3rd February when Poet Andy Tooze came into school.  He started the day with an introductory assembly before working his way around the classes engaging the children in active and funny poems.  He finished the day with the children working together to perform some poems they had learnt/written with him.

 

 

Art

 Monday and Wednesday where our art days in which each class teacher had to choose an artist to study with an array of carousal activities to take place throughout the day e.g.- painting, art and writing, fact files on the artist, questions about art, clay work etc.

We mixed up the classes and year groups and each class consisted of some children from N- Yr6.

All the children were split into groups and each group rotated round the classes completing different artist studies.

Art work was sold to the children for £1 as a donation/contribution to school funds and to the art supplies bought.

 

 

Literacy

The rest of the week the children studied a book in their own classes and created imaginative writing pieces, took part in reading activities, drama and speaking and listening activities.

The literacy took place Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

 

Animation workshop

As well as the literacy and art taking place on Monday the juniors ha the opportunity to take part in an animation workshop where they learnt how to create stop start animation and create their own mini films/cartoons.
